The collaboration focuses on advancing AUO’s new waveguide technologies and will be demonstrated in combination with Avegant AG-30L2 light engine at DisplayWeek 2025 in San Jose on May 13 ~ 15

SAN JOSE, CA, May 14, 2025 – Avegant Corp., a developer of next-generation light engines for Augmented Reality, announced a strategic partnership with AUO Corporation, a global leader in display solutions, to develop and deliver high-performance display modules featuring AUO’s new waveguide technology for augmented reality (AR) applications. This innovation marks a significant milestone in AR display performance and manufacturing, paving the way for immersive and seamless user experiences.
AUO’s new waveguide technology leverages proprietary advancements in optical design and manufacturing to deliver high color uniformity, brightness, and field-of-view (FoV). Utilizing high-refractive-index materials and next-generation fabrication techniques, the waveguides enable precise light transmission and projection, creating vivid virtual images while enabling high volume production for the industry.
AG-30L2 is a highly compact, efficient, and high-resolution light engine that uses liquid crystal on silicon (LCoS) technology with a volume as low as 1.4cc. Designed to enable sleek and lightweight form factors, it utilizes proprietary illumination technology to significantly reduce both volume and weight while preserving efficiency and modulation transfer function (MTF).
“Collaborating with AUO is a testament to innovation and scalability,” said Edward Tang, CEO & Founder of Avegant. “Their innovative waveguide production technologies and commitment to scalability are pivotal in bringing cutting-edge solutions to consumer markets. By leveraging AUO’s advanced manufacturing capabilities, we can ensure that AUO’s high performance waveguide technologies are widely accessible, transforming user experiences across the consumer market.”
“We are excited to collaborate with Avegant, a pioneer in AR displays,” said Dr. Wei-Lung Liau, Chief Technology Officer of AUO. “The combination of their light engine with AUO’s new waveguide technology will project virtual images directly onto the lenses of the glasses, creating exceptional brightness uniformity and high-definition display effects. It will also provide more future functionalities for AI technologies, opening new possibilities for customers of AI glasses and delivering a more immersive interactive entertainment experience.”
The first prototypes of this collaboration will be showcased at SID’s DisplayWeek 2025 in San Jose on May 13 ~ 15. Attendees will have the opportunity to experience the solution’s state-of-the-art optical performance firsthand at the AUO booth.
