Front Side Illumination

Conventional Designs

Conventional designs date back to the 1990s and use traditional PBS Cube optics. These PBS cubes result in poor contrast, poor efficiency, are expensive, heavy and require larger Illumination systems.

Avegant Designs

Avegant has developed PBS-Free optical architectures.  This is a new patented way to illuminate an LCoS panel that results in smaller, more efficient, higher contrast  and lower cost systems.

Spotlight™ TECHNOLOGY

Local Dimming

Spotlight™ Technology brings the advantages of local dimming to LCoS light engines for the first time.  Through structured illumination sources, illumination power can be reduced by 90% while increasing the contrast by over 10x.

Software Control Modes

High Brightness Outdoor Mode

Our engines can dynamically adjust the color space and timing to increase the brightness by over 2.5x.  By changing the color depth, super high brightness outdoor modes can be enabled on the fly.

Low Brightness Mode

Light engines and waveguides are becoming so bright, that it is difficult to operate in extreme low light conditions.  Our engines now have a new low brightness mode that allow for full-color 8-bit range D65 images at <0.005lm for use in dark environments

Freeze Frame

Reduce SoC/MCU Duty Cycles

Our engines have the ability to hold a frame indefinitely. SoCs and MCUs can send 1 frame to our engine, then go to a standby state to save power.

ZeroMount™ technology

Perfect Binocular Alignment

Binocular alignment of stereo waveguides and light engines can be difficult.  Our Zeromount™ technology allows for perfect stereo alignment with a simple adjustment, without adding extra volume or weight.

Eye Tracking

Camera based eye tracking is becoming standard technology

But cameras are slow, always on, and power hungry

Avegant’s Optical Flow  eye-tracking with sensor fusion reduces power to <10mW yet maintains 10kHz+ speeds

FOVEATED DISPLAY

Dynamic Optical Foveation

We have developed custom active optical components and algorithms to enable optical foveation. This results in retinal resolution across large FoVs with a fraction of the number of pixels.

Lightfield Technology

Avegant Light Field technology puts stunningly vivid virtual objects right in front of you, and solves one of Mixed Reality’s greatest technical challenges: Enabling virtual objects to appear real at distances both near and far. Solving Vergence Accommodation conflicts enhances the realism of objects while reducing eye fatigue.
